This year the spectacular, star-studded MasterChef themed Childline Ball raised £822,000 in aid of Childline. The fundraiser partnered with Shine TV, the production company behind the iconic show and was hosted by 2018 Celebrity MasterChef contestant Spencer Matthews and 2017 Celebrity MasterChef winner, Angellica Bell.
Angellica Bell said: “It was an absolute pleasure to host the 2019 Childline Ball alongside Spencer. Childline supports some of the most vulnerable children in the UK and it was wonderful to see guests come together for their very own taste of MasterChef, raising vital funds for young people who may have nowhere else to turn.”
Kathleen Saxton, Lighthouse CEO & Founder and Chair of the Childline Ball said: “Childline rely purely on donations and fundraising to deliver their critical service to children. The money raised this year will ensure over an additional 200,000 children will be responded to and helped. The Media industry has a huge heart.”
MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace attended the Ball to share their knowledge, expertise and passion for food. They were joined by MasterChef: The Professionals judges Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti who took part in a cooking challenge with guests.
Guests were also entertained by Janet Devlin, who rose to fame in the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011 and singer songwriter Kara Marni. As well as a range of celebrity supporters and high profile leaders from the media and business worlds, previous MasterChef winners Simon Wood, Irini Tzortzoglou, Jane Devonshire, Saliha Mahmood Ahmed and Kenny Tutt attended the event and supported with producing the menu for the evening.
The Financial Times was headline sponsor of what was the 13th Childline Ball. During this time the media industry has come together to create a legacy to support Childline and thanks to generous donations from some of the biggest media companies, the Ball’s total will go directly to the service.
Dame Esther Rantzen, founder of Childline, said: “The Childline Ball is one of the highlights of our year, and the 2019 event with its MasterChef theme was a spectacular evening. Not only was it fantastic to partner with a Global brand like MasterChef who brought something extra special and new to the Childline Ball, but we raised a huge sum of money for Childline so we can continue to be there for children who desperately need us.”
Speaking of this year’s event, Shine TV Managing Director, Tanya Shaw said: “We feel hugely privileged to have joined forces with Childline, which is an incredible service helping children and young people who feel they have no one else to talk to and nowhere else to turn. The MasterChef team at Shine TV are delighted to have had the opportunity to share their passion for food at this fantastic event, which has raised so much money for such an important cause.”
On average, a child contacts Childline every 25 seconds, with almost three-quarters of our counselling sessions with young people now taking place online. Childline became part of the NSPCC in 2006.
